Rehabilitation and Therapy
GOAL: To get you back on your feet and back
home!
Your therapy actually begins before surgery with pre-op exercises. Each
patient treated in the Center for Joint Replacement attends pre-op classes
to better understand what to expect and how to prepare for surgery.
They are given a comprehensive notebook that guides them from pre-op to
post-discharge care. Exercise, nutrition and wellness are part of the
comprehensive care provided in the Joint Center.
Physical therapy focuses on getting you up out of bed, walking around
your environment, going up and down stairs, stretching and strengthening
exercises.
Occupational therapy includes ability to perform activities of daily
living, such as , bathing, dressing, tub or shower transfer and using a
toilet.
Rehabilitation begins at home prior to surgery and continues as early
as the day of surgery. Physical and occupational therapists will work with
you individually and in group sessions. The goal of therapy is to increase
strength and range of motion in your new joint so you feel better faster.
