Patient Safety

St Mary Medical Center is committed to ensuring a safe environment for all patients and the provision of their care. We constantly monitor all processes related to care, reporting and investigation of unexpected events, as well as the trending and analysis of these activities.

Patient safety is an integral part of our culture.  St. Mary complies with all requirements set forth by PA State Act 13 and other regulatory and accrediting bodies.   St. Mary continuously benchmarks quality and patient safety against national and regional hospital indicators to ensure that we continue to provide the highest quality of care and service to our community.

2010
National Patient
Safety Goals

St. Mary is proactive in infection control surveillance and in establishing protocols to decrease and prevent the incidence of hospital-acquired infections. This proactive approach includes an institution-wide program to actively promote effective hand washing as well as programs to reduce urinary tract and central line infections and ventilator-associated pneumonia.

A message from The Hospital Association of Pennsylvania  on Community Acquired MRSA

In early November 2007, St. Mary implemented a bar code medication administration system to eliminate causes of many medication errors and alert caregivers to potential problems before a medication is given.

We continuously educate physicians and staff on utilizing CDC and Institute for Healthcare Improvement guidelines relating to patient safety and infection control.
