Pre-Admissions Testing

Patients to be treated at St. Mary

Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) is done prior to scheduled procedures, including surgery, or scheduled admissions to the hospital. All testing requires written orders from a physician which are forwarded to the Pre-Admissions and Access departments. The Access office will then call the patient to schedule the physician-ordered tests. All pre-admission tests are done 14 to 21 days before the surgery or scheduled admission.

Pre-admission testing is done in the Outpatient Care Facility, second level. There is reserved parking for Pre-Admission Testing patients on the second level of the parking garage at the rear of the St. Mary campus. The PAT office is adjacent to the second level entrance of the parking garage.

Pre-Admission Testing
To save time, patients are encouraged to print and bring the completed Patient Questionaire form to their Pre-Admissions Testing appointment.

Although the physician determines what procedures are to be done, routine pre-admission testing often includes:
  • EKG
  • Blood pressure
  • Laboratory blood work
  • Chest X-ray

The Pre-Admission Testing department is open 7:30 am to 6 pm, Monday to Thursday; and 7:30 am to 4 pm on Friday. Call 215-710-5115 for more information and to schedule pre-admission testing.

PRE-ADMISSION TESTING
Prior to your Surgery date you will receive a phone call from the hospital Access staff to gather insurance and registration information.  At that time they will schedule you for an appointment with Pre-Admission Testing (PAT).

During your PAT appointment our Clinical Staff will obtain a health history from you, perform a physical examination and Anesthesia assessment.  Lab testing, EKG, X-Ray may be required based on your individual needs in preparation for your surgery.  Please make a list of the medications and their dosages that you are taking (including over-the-counter medications and herbal medicines), any allergies, and bring it with you to your appointment.  Please also bring this list with you on your day of Surgery.  **Plan on allowing 2 hours for your PAT visit.  Your regular medications may be taken on the day of your PAT visit.  *Exception: diabetic patients who are fasting should hold their anti-hyperglycemic medications.

Patients to be treated at other hospitals
Pre-Admission Testing before surgery or admission to other medical facilities can be arranged to be done at St. Mary. Call Centralized Scheduling at 215-710-2208. You must bring physician orders for these tests.

Directions to The Surgical Center and Pre-Admission Testing:
For easiest access, park in the Parking Garage (free) located at the rear of the Medical Center campus.  Proceed to the second level to enter the Outpatient Care Facility.  The PAT entrance is the first doorway on the left on the second level after you enter the building. Patients may also be dropped off and picked up at the entrance to the Outpatient Facility which is the circular driveway on the right, just prior to the Parking Garage entrance.  Proceed through this Lobby entrance and take the elevators opposite the Surgical Center to the second floor.  PAT is to the left off the elevators and near the entrance for the parking garage.
